About Us
The Wheelchair Factory was established as a service based business in 1984, and still operates on a service ethic.
The business has grown from sporting wheelchairs to custom made wheelchairs, then to electric wheelchairs and scooters, and now encompasses most rehabilitation and mobility appliances plus accessories, institutional equipment and furniture.
Service and spare parts are the core of our business, based on the principle that most of our clientele are totally dependent on equipment purchased, and need reliable service to keep things running safely and efficiently. The Wheelchair Factory sends spare parts, particularly tyres, tubes and bearings, to many clients across Australia and New Zealand.
Rental of equipment has also grown, particularly to overseas clients visiting Canberra and the South Coast. The Wheelchair Factory can arrange hire of almost anything given adequate notice and clear specifications of need.
Access for those clients choosing to remain in their home has also become an important part of our activities. The need for loading ramps for vehicles, threshold and over stair ramps, rails and bathroom modifications grows as our population ages.
Seating and posture, pressure relief and management are catered for in conjunction with ACT and NSW health professionals. This area of our business involves us in cushions, pressure relief mattresses and posture support products.
The changing workplace has also seen The Wheelchair Factory become involved in the fit out of sick rooms in many government departments and larger retailers. As the hospitality industry recognizes the value of the aged and disabled traveler, we are often asked to advise on generic requirements to meet the needs of this market for hotels and motels.
Mobility scooters often take as long to match to our client as a wheelchair does. For this reason we are located in an area which allows customers to try before they buy over a variety of terrain and obstacles.
